Classes and Workshops

The Oldman River Potters Guild organizes workshops, classes and other learning opportunities for its members and the community. Throughout its rich history, dozens of talented clay artists have shared skills and ideas through the guild.

2022 Classes and Workshops

Wheel Throwing Class

Beginner's Wheel Class

Try for the first time or build on your skills, come explore clay on the wheel with us!

Learn about the entire process, from raw clay to glazing, food safe pieces.

We will walk you through each step, giving you lots of time to practice. 

This class will run for 6 sessions

Mondays

 (with Some Scheduling Changes due to our Spring Sale)

6:00 to 9:00 pm

The fee is $220.00

All Participants will receive a 1/2 box of M340 Clay and a Beginner Tool Kit.  Firings and Glaze Materials are provided to finish your wares.  This class will be limited to 10 people.

Hand Building Class

Intended for beginner and intermediate level potters, this course will cover basic construction methods like coil and slab. Hump and slump molds and tar paper templates will also be introduced. Historical and contemporary works will be included for inspiration.

Two main projects along with some push-plates will be the focus of this course. The smaller push-plates will be used as test pieces for surface decoration techniques like sgrafitto, carving, etc. Some underglazes and mason stains will be formulated to facilitate the use of these techniques.

This is the last session available until fall 2022.

(Thursdays)
