About the event
This is a beginner-level handbuilding class with six sessions over 6 weeks.
Class dates are February 23, March 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 from 6-9 pm.
Course Description
The goal of this class is to familiarize participants with the basic principles of hand-forming and surface decoration; a background in kiln firing is also included. Projects are geared towards beginner and intermediate level makers. Using the basic forming methods of slab and coil, we will explore templates, darting and molds; various approaches to surface decoration are integrated in these activities. There will be a project each week and each week some time will be given to completion of the previous week’s project until week 4/5. After that, some additional emphasis will be given to drying, bisque firing, traditional glazing and glaze firing. Participants vary in experience level from total novice to intermediate. Most important is the process of making and sharing discoveries.
